Where The Yarn Goes

So I have a stash.  It's huge by some people's standards but small by others.  I personally don't think it's too bad.  The only thing I feel bad about is that I have about 2 rubbermaid containers filled with yarn I may or may not ever use.  This was the yarn that I bought when I first started knitting.  Mostly acrylic.  Some of it novelty.  I can't bear to part with it.  One day I might.  But for now it's sitting in the corner out of the way in the spare room.  Then there is the hand spun.  That is in another rather large container.  And I am working my way through that.  And then there is what I refer to as "the current stash".

This cabinet (a legal bookcase is what the label said) is about 27 years old. It was one of the first items we bought for our first house. It's been storing books and miscellaneous things for years. But I had a better use for it.

The basket holds my ball winder, swift and other miscellaneous items. The top shelf has some sock yarn and other yarn that's ready for some future projects.

The second holds some hand spun. Most of it I don't know what I will use it for. Simply looking at it makes me happy.  And there is some other yarn for future projects.

The third shelf has my project bags all ready to go. Only 3 of them have projects in them. The rest are empty.

And this shelf has my fiber stash. It's hard to appreciate with the plastic bags but trust me - its beautiful.

So that's where I have a good portion of my fibery goodness. How do you store yours?

That's a pretty manageable stash. I feel like my yarn stash isn't too bad but I do have stuff I'm pretty sure I will never use. And my fiber stash is ridiculous since I hardly ever spin anymore!

Hi! Is that a louet s40 hatbox spinning wheel on the top of the cabinet? Lucky dog if it is!! I have been looking at those for sale (used because they are not made anymore) and hope to get one eventually to go with my louet s75 which they don't make anymore either. Not to bad a stash. Blessings!

loved seeing your "stuff". I should take photos again of mine. Love the colors you tend to choose as well :)

Mine is stored in a closet of the spare bedroom. Out of site, out of mind. So I then tend to buy more! LOL. I have it on a spread sheet, so I know exactly what I have and how much. That helps me to make decisions on what I can make when the mood strikes. It also saves me walking upstairs to see if I have enough when I am surfing patterns.

I like that you have a way to store and see your pretty yarns and project bags. Your photos make me want to do some tidying up. :-) Much of my stash is on shelves in the craft room closet and the rest in drawers. I also have a box of old yarns tucked away that I'm fairly sure I'll never use.

That's a nice cabinet for yarn. I told hubby if we ever get one of those TVs that you put on the wall, I want the TV cabinet for yarn. It will be a while because I have to wait till the TV dies. HA!

My sister has both the legal bookcases we grew up with and I just called her last night and asked if I could have one to store my stash in. Now I see you post...It's wonderful!

I don't have much yarn (yet). I am just storing them in my knitting bag. I love your cupboard!

Hmmm...I think I've got a pretty substantial stash but it's a lot of singles. And a scary amount of wips that just need to be ripped. There should be a ripping weekend somewhere. Wouldn't that be fun?

What a lovely stash :) I keep most of my yarn in a blanket box in my bedroom but it has also spread to a couple of bags in my wardrobe, a basket in the lounge and a few skeins in a chest of drawers, whoops ;-)

Donna! Love your cabinet as well as your stash! I, too, (don't we all?) have that acrylic collection... I've just finished sorting & organizing my stash and hope to put up a post this afternoon, although I have to say that I still need to find a cabinet to keep mine in.

Well, mine is in bags just stuffed into a large cedar robe with 4 shelves on one side and on the hang up side too. I have to go through bags to find what I want. Your chest is wonderful ~ very convicting too. :-) Maybe one day...
