Thankful Thursday

I knew what I wanted to blog about today.  The problem was that I didn't have any pictures that related to the subject.  I had some old photos, but the quality of them was worse than my Iphone pictures. So instead - you can look at beautiful peeps.  In a roundabout way that is what I am thankful for today.  My peeps - my fiber peeps, that is.

When I decided to try spinning I didn't belong to a group of any kind.  I knew how to knit and I did it basically alone in my house.  I occasionally would go to a local knit night with a co-worker, but it was generic chit chat and no connection was made with any of the girls.  Back then the knitting internet connection was either the Knitters List on Yahoo groups or the Knitters Review Forum.  Blogs were just coming into existence and there was no Ravelry.  I connected with a local woman on the Knitters List and mentioned that I had just gotten a spinning wheel for Christmas.  She promptly invited me to her home for a Spin In with a bunch of other ladies.  I accepted the invitation (she only lived 5 minutes away from me) and my husband thought I was nuts.  "You are going to some person's house that you have never met before?  You have only talked to her online? Are you insane?"

Pat turned out to be a sweetheart and the rest of the ladies I met that day were wonderful.  It's going on 7 years that I have known these wonderful women and the friendships that have formed have been so important to me.  I went on to meet so many great friends at the RI Spinners Guild and on Ravelry and different blogs.  Who knew fiber could be do that?

It's amazing, isn't it? And hey, I flew to Salt Lake City to spend a week with someone I'd never met before. Talk about gutsy! lol
