A lot of my projects are getting too big to carry around so I wanted to work on my socks. I decided to do a true afterthought heel - just cut the yarn and put a heel in. I followed the YouTube video and started to cut. It promised to be easy. So cut I did.
They lied. Next thing I knew my stitches on the needle (only two actually) were unraveling. Crap. So after a bit of surgery I started the heel. And now we are moving along.
So cutting the knitting - not so terrifying. It was easily fixed and I should be starting sock 2 today.
I finished the Year of Living Danishly and I liked it. Interesting information about other cultures. I'm back to reading "Big Stone Gap" since it's now on DVD.
What are you knitting and reading?
Joining Ginny.

you are adventurous in your cutting of knitting. I do heel flaps...always. But then you knit way more socks than I do!! love the colorway!!!
I didn't know Big Stone Gap was on DVD. I must watch it. Cutting anything yarn related scares me to death.
we are always learning, hey!? looks lovely.
Ahem, cutting my yarn? Not sure I have enough nerve, but it is only yarn right? Just look at you go, awesome!
Oh my goodness! I don't think I would have been brave enough to cut! Lol, it scares me just looking at the pictures! ;-)
I would have been terrified, you really are amazing!
Love those stripes. I don't know that I could muster the courage for a true afterthought heel.
Oh Im so sorry. I tried afterthough heels once and never went back to them. Im old fashioned I guess.
Looking for a good read....
just knitting and reading blogs right now
i've become sort of a fan of the afterthought heel, although I guess mine isn't really afterthought since I knit in some scrap yarn where I want the heel to be and then cut that. It's always gone smoothly. I'd worry about getting the heel on each sock in the same place if I did it the other way!!!! (I'm pretty clutzy that way!)
Oh my stars! I would be a nervous wreck if I thought about cutting my knitting! I am glad it worked out for you though. You are very brave.
I knit socks at a meeting today and it was great - it's been a long time since I've done that. And I finished reading The Tsar of Love and Techno and it was fantastic.
These remind me of pippi-long stockings, love those bright, bold colors!! I have never made a pair of socks, but they are a great, small project to work on when you are out and about!!
Oh my goodness you are brave! Great colour combo on those socks :)
Ooh, I've recently read The Year of Living Danishly and I loved it! Made me want to visit Denmark :) And... I've also just done my first pair of afterthought heels, and it has to be said I'm not terribly keen. I didn't have any unraveling, as such, but it will definitely need surgery to close up the big gusset gaps :( I don't like the heel shape either, so I think I'll be going back to traditional do-it-as-you-go heels next time!
I love those bright, cheery colours! You are very brave - I'd never be able to cut my knitting...
I tried the after thought heel but did not like the fit....so back to my gusset heels. Your socks are delightful and I am glad you were able to rescue that heel!!!
