The Skinny on the Mini

So I had a few questions asked about the new spinning apparatus yesterday so I thought I would talk a little more about it.  For more details you can always go directly to Hansen.

It runs on electricity or a battery.  You can even plug it into your cigarette lighter (are they even called that anymore?) in your car and spin in there if you are so inclined.

You can purchase it with or without the WooLee Winder.  I suggest getting it.  It makes the whole process seamless and more relaxing.  It only comes with one bobbin.  I purchased some more from my friends at Akerworks because I just love those light colorful bobbins.  It comes in a variety of woods from cherry to tigerwood.  I'm partial to maple because that matches my Lendrum wheel.

Is it good for a beginner?  Yes and no.  Yes because it takes the treadling element completely out of the equation.  That is the easy part.  However, it's not cheap.  It's about a $1000 investment.  That being said, if you don't like it you can resell it on Ravelry (in about an hour from what I've seen - they are very hard to find second hand) and not lose too much money.  It's takes up hardly any room at all and I love that I can just pick it up and go.  I know I will be spinning much more often now.

It looks like a nifty little machine...i LOVE that you could use it in a car if you wanted. My question is... does it have a "brake"? I constantly have to stop my wheel to fix my roving or something (I'm a fairly new spinner).

Yesterday when I left here I did go to the Hanson site and check things out. While I think it is an nifty tool, I think of me I want a spinning wheel that I have to tread, you know, cause I want the whole spinning experience, kind of like a Norman Rockwell painting.;)
