Yarn Along

There has been some knitting but for the most part it's spinning.  And it's nice for a change.  My wheels seem to get neglected a bit during the winter.  It's good to be back in the groove.

So my original plan was to card and spin the two fleeces that I had. Well, at least work on one of them.  I started the carding process and after 2 days I came to my senses and sent the fleece out to be processed.  I only have so many hours in my day to do things.  I hate carding.  And if I hate doing it, why should I do it?  I would rather spend the extra money and have the time to knit.

On to plan B.  I bought a one pound bag of merino/tencel to spin for a sweater when I took the spinning class from Amy King in March.  The idea is to use up all those 4 oz. bumps of fiber you may have in your stash. When I looked at my fiber stash I really didn't have any!  I have some large quantities to spin but that was about it. So of course I bought some.  And to be honest, I bought some more yesterday because I still don't think 1 lb. of fiber is enough for a short sleeve sweater for me.

How does this work?  Well, you take each 4 oz. bump of fiber and divide it in half.  Number the bumps 1-4 (or in my case, 1-6).  You take half of bump 1 and spin it.   You ply it on itself.  Then you spin the second half and spin it.  Then you take color 2, spin it, then you ply that half with color 1.  You follow this pattern and what happens is that you will have colors that fade into each other.

The skein on the bottom is Color 1.  The skein on top is Color 1 and 2 plied together.

And on we go....
