The little "greenhouses" Harry came up with seemed to work. Who would think of a 30 cent greenhouse? It worked well for the first week because after that the other plants took off. And took off fast. So fast that the lid came off the greenhouses.
The next to grow was the cucumbers, followed by the gourds, baby pumpkins and finally the large pumpkins. This weekend we will plant the lettuce (when I went to plant it with the rest of the seeds the packet was empty - I called High Mowing and they immediately sent replacements). I'm still mulling over where to plant it. I fear if we put it in the garden the rabbits will find it and that will be the end. So I'm thinking of planting it right in my flower boxes on the back deck. They are about 6 inches deep. Harry doesn't think it will grow well in there. I think it will be fine. Any opinions from you more experienced gardeners?
Right now the only pest we have to keep out of the plants is this one.
Amazingly curiosity hasn't gotten the best of her and she has stayed out. Let's see how long that lasts.

We have a few little seedlings coming up, too. I can't wait until we plant the full garden, which will be a while yet!
Oh they're growing great! I have a few little lettuce sprouts popping up. The eggplant and peppers aren't doing anything and I planted them almost 2 weeks ago :-( This cold weather isn't helping. I don't think they like being in the house. They need sun & warmth in the breezeway but it's too cold for them out there!
YAY FOR SPRING!!!
30 cent greenhouses, you guys ROCK!
My thumb is about as far from green as it gets. I could not even keep a cactus let alone grow vegetables good enough to eat.
You're fine to plant the lettuce in the flower beds. It's a good filler plant...
