Typical Summer

It's been a beautiful summer so far. The weather has been great. The weekends have been rain free and not overly hot. The weatherman is telling us that is going to change this weekend. They are predicting it will get to 100 degrees tomorrow. I don't believe it! One good thing about the hot weather is that the garden loves it.

It's also been great weather for sock knitting.

Socks that Rock! I am planning a trip to WEBS soon as I am now out of STR totally. Anybody up for a trip?

Tour de What???

I know - this post should be all about my Tour de Fleece project. You should be seeing the pounds of yarn I have spun up. Ummm - not so much. But I have been busy with fiber. Just the kind that is already spun up. My Multnomah shawl is finished and it got a proper photo shoot - something I rarely get to do.

I'm thinking there's a problem though..

I know I know. It's so addicting. It's an easy pattern to memorize and it uses up the sock yarn stash!

Tour de Fleece 2011

I haven't participated in the Tour in a year or so. Summer is my "chill out" time so I don't usually do well with goals. I guess that summer "I'm outta school" mentality never left me. I looked forward to this summer I think because the weather was just so blah until June. I couldn't wait to be able to sit on my back deck (like I'm doing now) and do "my stuff". That stuff consists of knitting spinning reading blogging etc...

Back to the Tour.

I was reminded about the TDF while I was going through my Ravelry groups. I noticed I had belonged to the TDF group a couple of years ago. It occurred to me that it was that time of year again. I have a nice little (ok - maybe not so little) fiber stash. This would be a great way to turn some of it into yarn. Then the next brainstorm came to me. I want to weave a hand spun blanket for a wedding gift for a friend getting married in October. But what to use?

I dug through the stash and remembered this chocolate brown "bale" wool my friend Pat & I got from Sheep Shed years ago. It was perfect. It's nice and soft and I have plenty of it.

I spun some up yesterday and plied it. It's soft and airy and will make a great blanket that's not too heavy but will be very warm.

So thats my Tour de Fleece 2011 project. The goal is to spin spin spin. I'm not sure if I will get through all the fiber though. I have over 10 pounds of it....
