Yarn Along

There may not have been much blogging going on lately but there has been some knitting. I have a few birthdays coming up and there is sock knitting to do.

I am using my sturdy Lionbrand for this pair. I think the colors are perfect for the recipient.

Since Im posting from my phone I can't link to Ginny but head on over to www.gsheller.com and check it out!

10 on Tuesday

It's 10 on Tuesday!  Well this is certainly an easy one for me. 10 Reasons You are Ready For Winter to be Over.

1. The picture above says it all.  It's beautiful to look at.  But it sucks to clean.  And darn slippery!

2. I'm ready for my black car to be salt free again.  The "powdered covered doughnut" look isn't working for me.

3. I'm ready for the inside of that black car to be salt and sand free.

4. I want to start enjoying walks outside.

5. I'm ready for some outdoor gardening. Right now my yard is a muddy mess.

6. I'm ready to go to the beach!

7. I'm anxious to see some fireworks. Rumor has it that we may even get ours back in town after a ten year hiatus.

8. I'm ready to sit outside and have a fire in the pit.

9. This Italian girl needs some color again.  The pasty look is making me look ill.  I'm not much of a sun bather, but I just naturally get a nice healthy glow during the summer.

10.  I'm so ready to sit on my deck and do this again.

How Are Ya?

Sorry for the blog silence for a while. I have been without my laptop - hubby's crashed and he relies on it for work so I gave him mine to use. I would normally post from my office computer early in the morning but it has been crazy busy so I have had no time to post or read your blogs either.

So what's been going on? We enjoyed winter break (break for Nicole - I only took 1/2 a day off, again - it's just been busy). It's fun coming home to a bunch of teenagers everyday. I have been doing some early spring cleaning and rearranging. I created a new fiber space for myself.

I still have most of my stash in my upstairs spare room but I have such great sunlight in that space that I'd like to use it more.

I have both my wheels accessible now. I'm selling my Kromski Polonaise as much as I love it. I will definitely miss that Woolie Winder! But it needs to go to a good home where she will be used.

Lots of knitting to talk about but that will get a post of its own! Probably more than one! Have a great day.

Yarn Along

I have lots of fiber related things going on.  I'm knitting on my sweater (no pics yet), still working on my socks and have been doing some spinning as well.  It seems like every time we lose power I have the urge to spin.  I'm probably getting in touch with my inner pioneer woman.  I pulled out this Polworth/Silk combo I bought from Corgi Hill Farm last month.  (I take no responsibility to what happens to your credit card if you click on the link - she has some beautiful things).

I drafted it and got it ready to spin.

All the blues reminded me of a Caribbean ocean.

I sat in front of the fire and started to spin.

After about an hour, the power came back on.  I did my happy dance and resumed spinning for a while.  I even read a bit (not for long though).  One of these days I'll actually finish that 3rd Fifty Shades book.

So what's on your needles or wheels these days?

Joining Ginny as always on a Wednesday!

Weekending

The blizzard is over.  It was quite a weekend!  Our time was spent
Keeping wood in the fire
Being thankful for that stove since it was keeping us warm, cooking us food, and giving us hot water
I did some knitting and some spinning
We got to spend Sunday watching basketball all day since the power came back on in the afternoon
There was the obvious shoveling of snow (which I did not participate in)
And the eventual venturing out to see what the rest of the neighborhood looked like
Now it's Monday and we are getting back to normal
And preparing for more snow later in the week

Did you have a fun weekend?

As Good As It Gets

This is as prepared as we can be for the weekend.  I'm thankful to live as close to the water as we do.  We may only see between 1 and 2 feet of snow.  Those to the north are rumored to get 3 feet.  We have candles and batteries for flashlights.  The Ipad, computers and phones are charged.  The wood is stacked by the stove.   And if we do lose power we are tossing the food from the refrigerator into the snow.   Enjoy your weekend!

Yarn Along

It's Wednesday and you know what that means?  It's time for Yarn Along  where I show you what I'm knitting and none of what I am reading.  That's just where I'm at these days and I'm not apologizing for it.  One day there will be time for both....

With the Superbowl I had some great knitting time.  I finished my Crosswords Shawl (which shall have a post of it's own) and I have since moved on to some sweater knitting to help along with my 2013 Goals.  I cast on for the sleeve last night.

Kinda boring.  I know.  I'm hoping I will have enough yarn for the sleeves.

I'm making up the pattern as I go along.  It is based on Klaralund which is a Noro pattern.  I couldn't find the pattern and it didn't really matter because I would have to totally improvise anyway because it doesn't have my size.  I have back up yarn in case this doesn't work out.  I am really enjoying the process of designing my own.  I just have to remember to keep writing it down so I remember what to do on the second sleeve.

As I'm sitting here writing this I am getting the feeling that I should have used the original yarn I liked.  I have a feeling you may see something totally different next week.....

10 on Tuesday

I had to sit back and think about this weeks 10 on Tuesday.  It didn't take me long though to come up with 10 Things I Miss From My Childhood.

1.  Being silly.  When you're a kid - you just can!  Now I get real silly from time to time, but I think as a kid it just comes naturally - and without any guilt.
2.  My pool. It was nothing fancy.  It was your standard above the ground round pool.  We had a blast in it! And it wasn't my problem to clean or take care of it (which is one of the reasons we don't have one anymore).
3.  Sleepovers.  Every weekend was a girls sleepover.  Especially as we got to our teen years.
4.  Santa Claus.  There was nothing like the magic of Santa Claus!  I love Christmas, but when Santa becomes, ahem... "a different reality" a bit of the childhood magic is lost.
5.  Lack of responsibility.  You had three meals a day, a place to sleep and it all just happened, without you having to do a thing.
6.  Mom's cooking.  Kind of like #5 - it just sorta happened without having to do anything to make it so.
7.  The ice cream man!  No explanation needed.
8.  Spending time with my grandparents.  We spent quite a few weekends at my grandparents house and they are some of the best memories.  Up until a couple of years ago I still had 2 of my 4 grandparents around.  I can't believe I am approaching 50 and I still have my grandpa with me.  He will be 100 in April.
9.  Watching TV on Saturday - all day.  My brother and I would usually fight over what we would watch but eventually settle in and enjoy what we picked.  And there were always snacks to go along with it.
10.  Summertime.  Now we obviously still have a summer, but I don't have the pleasure of having that time off.  I should have been a teacher!
